Volunteers pose with President Prunella Mungroo, and Dennis Sammy of Nature Seekers

Fifteen volunteers heeded the call, and made the (early) trek with UWISE to Matura for a beach cleanup, and sand sculpting competition hosted by Nature seekers. In attendance was also the UWI Biological Society.

We should note – UWI Biological Society has been working along with Nature Seekers and doing excellent work for the past 20 years! Congratulations to their past and current executive and its loyal membership on their consistency, hard work and dedication to high quality!

ImageAt the beach, our volunteers mainly worked “batching” and bagging garbage collected at the beach by the other volunteers. They came prepared for the job, and it is even interesting to note that a group of volunteers maintained added their own feminine touch (even in the midst of huge bags of garbage) in their stylish pink gloves!

UWISE volunteers also joined in the fun  as they entered the sand sculpting competition. Ten groups vied for the coveted priviledge of being the best sand turtle maker on the beach. Positioned between the UWI Biological Society’s team, and the St. Mary’s Sea Scouts unit, our team crafted, sculpted and breathed life into a sand leatherback turtle affectionately called...nah we can’t repeat that (lol).

Despite of our valiant effort, the two teams from the Sea Scouts took both the first and second prizes.

Even though the prize wasn’t the important part we’ve kicked in a gear and had good fun on the beach. Now it’s on to Campus Volunteer Day 2009!

Thanks to our volunteers for their hard work and team spirit. See you all at CVD, March 12 2009!
